A Note About Enhanced Services for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing |
All deaf and hard of hearing persons will
be served on an equal basis at all DMHS-funded programs. Some emergency
screening and short term care facilities have been enhanced with additional
training and staff experience to improve communication with deaf and hard of
hearing people. When a deaf individual seeks mental health services, they will
be made aware that they can be accommodated at all locations. They will also be
informed about deaf enhanced service locations. The individual then decides if
they want to receive services at the current program or be transferred to an
enhanced program. In either case, the program will make necessary accommodations
to communicate with the client or their family members as
needed.
